can I get into alaska with my drivers license and a birth certificate if i dont have a passport?

Im supposed to be driving to Alaska this week but I dont have a passport. But someone told me a birth certificate and a photo i.d. such as a driver’s license would be good enough. Is this correct or is there some new law prohibiting this?
